A Lehi truck bomb at Jaffa's Saraya building on 4 January 1948 killed 26 people.

On 4 January 1948 Lehi drove a truck loaded with explosives into the courtyard of the Saraya, the old Ottoman government building in Jaffa that housed the town's social services, and detonated it. The building collapsed. Twenty-six people were killed and many more injured, most of them clerks, families seeking help, and children in a soup kitchen.

Jaffa, the largest Palestinian city, had some 70,000 people at the start of 1948. By the time it surrendered on 13 May, the day before the declaration, about 4,000 were left.
