The record
We don't report statements on Israel, we report actions. Here's why.
Each count runs from the day a Western government, or a court those governments claim to respect, told Israel to stop. Under each one is what happened next. The counts update every day.
since the EU said cutting food, water and electricity to Gaza's civilians breaks international law.
The regime kept the siege, and from 2 March 2025 blocked all food, fuel and medicine for 11 weeks. The EU remains Israel's largest trading partner. Source
since Joe Biden flew to Tel Aviv, warned Israel not to be consumed by rage, and promised aid would reach Gaza.
The same day, the USA vetoed a Security Council resolution calling for humanitarian pauses. The first 20 aid trucks crossed at Rafah three days later, for 2.2 million people. Source
since the U.S. Secretary of State said far too many Palestinians had been killed.
Arms transfers continued with no conditions attached. The Gaza Ministry of Health toll then stood at about 11,000. Source
since Joe Biden said Israel was losing support because of its indiscriminate bombing.
Three days earlier the State Department had approved an emergency sale of tank shells to Israel without congressional review. It did it again on 29 December. Source
since the World Court ordered Israel to prevent acts of genocide and let aid into Gaza.
The USA had already called the case meritless, and Germany had announced it would intervene on Israel's side. Arms kept shipping from Washington and Berlin. Source
since the White House demanded written assurances that Israel was obeying international law and not blocking U.S.-backed aid, and Joe Biden called Israel's response over the top.
On 10 May the State Department found Israel's assurances credible, while conceding it was reasonable to assess U.S. weapons had been used in ways inconsistent with humanitarian law. Deliveries continued. Source
since a Dutch appeals court ordered the Netherlands to stop exporting F-35 parts to Israel, citing a clear risk of serious violations of humanitarian law.
The government appealed. On 3 October 2025 the Supreme Court set the order aside, holding that the courts had gone too far in substituting their own judgement for the minister's, and sent the licence back to the government to be reassessed against its obligations under international law. Deliveries did not resume. In November 2025 the cabinet postponed any resumption while that reassessment ran, so the parts stayed blocked by a decision the government kept putting off rather than by a court. No resumption has been announced since. Source
since invading Rafah was a "red line".
Israeli forces entered Rafah on 6 May and pushed into the city itself from 14 May. When a strike on the Tal al-Sultan tent camp killed at least 45 people on 26 May, the White House said no red line had been crossed. Source
since the UN Security Council demanded an immediate ceasefire. The USA abstained, then the State Department called the resolution non-binding the same day.
Ten more months of bombing followed. The death toll rose from about 32,000 to more than 46,000 before the January 2025 truce, which the regime broke on 18 March 2025. Source
since Joe Biden told Benjamin Netanyahu that U.S. policy would depend on immediate steps to protect civilians and aid workers, three days after Israeli strikes killed seven World Central Kitchen staff.
The regime promised to open the Erez crossing. Arms kept flowing, and on 13 August Washington approved a further $20 billion in weapons sales. Source
since the U.S. president said that if Israel went into Rafah, he would not supply the weapons.
Washington paused a single shipment of 2,000-pound and 500-pound bombs. It released the 500-pound bombs in July 2024 and kept the heavier ones held. Donald Trump lifted the hold on the 2,000-pound bombs on 25 January 2025, five days into his term. Source
since the World Court ordered Israel to halt its Rafah offensive immediately.
Two days later came Tal al-Sultan. By 28 May Israeli tanks were in central Rafah. Source
since the World Court found Israel's occupation of Palestinian territory unlawful and said it must end as rapidly as possible.
On 18 September 2024 the UN General Assembly gave Israel 12 months to end it. The USA voted against. The deadline passed a month after the regime gave final approval to the E1 settlement plan. Source
since the UK found a clear risk its arms could be used to break humanitarian law, and suspended 30 of around 350 export licences.
It exempted F-35 components, the parts for the jets bombing Gaza. Source
since the USA gave Israel 30 days to let in at least 350 aid trucks a day or risk its weapons supply.
By November aid had fallen to its lowest level in eleven months. On 12 November the State Department said Israel was not breaking U.S. law, and the weapons kept coming. Source
since the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Benjamin Netanyahu and Yoav Gallant.
France said Netanyahu may have immunity. Hungary hosted him in April 2025 and announced it was leaving the court. The USA sanctioned the court's prosecutor and judges. Source
since the USA and France guaranteed a ceasefire in Lebanon that Joe Biden said was designed to be permanent.
The regime kept striking Lebanon through the truce and kept troops at five positions past the withdrawal deadline. A new war began on 2 March 2026. Source
since the UK, France and Canada promised "concrete actions" if Israel did not halt its offensive and lift aid restrictions, and called permanent forced displacement a breach of international law.
The offensive ran almost five more months, through famine and the assault on Gaza City. None of the three has imposed an arms embargo. In September 2026 the UK banned imports from illegal settlements, which leaves its trade with Israel untouched, and the 2024 suspension still covers about thirty of roughly 350 licences. Source
since an EU review found indications Israel was breaching the human rights clause of its trade agreement.
The Commission proposed suspending trade concessions in September 2025. Member states never adopted it, and rejected suspension again on 21 April 2026. In May 2026 the EU sanctioned a handful of violent settlers, which costs the Israeli state nothing. Israel keeps its preferential access to the EU market. Source
since thirty-one countries said the war in Gaza must end now.
Eighteen days later the regime approved its plan to seize Gaza City. Source
since Germany halted arms exports that could be used in Gaza.
It lifted the halt from 24 November 2025, the government saying the ceasefire had fundamentally stabilised. Israeli strikes on Gaza continued through it. Source
since twenty-nine countries said famine was unfolding before their eyes, and warned the regime against its new rules for aid groups.
Ten days later, famine was confirmed in and around Gaza City. The aid group rules went ahead. Source
since a UN Commission of Inquiry found Israel is committing genocide in Gaza.
Israeli ground forces began their assault on Gaza City the same day. Two months later Germany announced it would resume arms exports. Source
since the UK, Canada and Australia recognised the State of Palestine. France followed the next day.
The state they recognised controls none of its borders, and its territory in Gaza keeps shrinking. Source
since Donald Trump said he would not allow Israel to annex the West Bank.
The E1 settlement plan, approved a month earlier, went ahead. On 22 October 2025 the Knesset gave a preliminary vote to bills applying Israeli sovereignty to the West Bank, which the U.S. vice president called an insult. On 8 February 2026 the regime's security cabinet approved rules extending Israeli land registration and planning control across the territory. The UN Secretary-General deplored the move and more than 80 UN member states called it de facto annexation. On 18 August 2026 the regime issued tenders for 1,234 housing units in E1. By September 2026 the UK said the regime had approved 104 new settlements in a year. OCHA recorded 23 Palestinians killed and more than 1,040 injured in settler attacks between 1 January and 24 August 2026. Source
since Hamas released the last living hostages.
Donald Trump declared the war over. Gaza's Ministry of Health has since counted 1,488 Palestinians killed under the ceasefire. The regime drew a new line, the Orange Line, on 13 October 2025 and took another 36 square kilometres, and by June 2026 the UN put 64.9% of the strip under tighter and more direct Israeli control. Source
since ten foreign ministers, including those of the UK, France and Canada, called on Israel to let international aid groups keep working in Gaza.
The regime refused registration to 37 of them, including MSF, Oxfam and the Norwegian Refugee Council. Israel's High Court rejected their petition on 20 May 2026 and gave them thirty days to hand over staff lists or stop work. Twenty governments objected again on 9 June 2026. Source
since more than 80 UN member states called the regime's seizure of West Bank land registration what it is, annexation.
Six months later the regime put 1,234 homes in E1 out to tender, the settlement that cuts the West Bank in two. Source
since the UK called the occupation unlawful, banned imports from illegal settlements and sanctioned five extremist settlers, alongside France and Canada.
None of it touches Israel itself. Trade with Israel continues, the 2024 arms suspension still covers about thirty of roughly 350 licences, and the settlements the measures name keep being built. Source
