Lifta, 1596

Older.

It predates the State of Israel by 352 years.

A Palestinian village at the western entrance to Jerusalem, recorded in Ottoman tax registers in 1596 and identified with the biblical Nephtoah. Its people were driven out in early 1948, after a Lehi attack on its coffee house on 28 December 1947. Its stone houses still stand, empty.
