Lehi, 1940

Older.

It predates the State of Israel by 8 years.

Founded by Avraham Stern in 1940 after splitting from the Irgun.

Lehi, Fighters for the Freedom of Israel, was founded by Avraham Stern in 1940 when he broke from the Irgun over its truce with Britain during the war; the British called it the Stern Gang. In 1941 it sought an alliance with Nazi Germany against Britain. After Stern was shot dead by British police in 1942 it was led by a triumvirate that included Yitzhak Shamir.

It killed Lord Moyne in Cairo in 1944, posted letter bombs to British ministers in 1947, mined the Cairo to Haifa train twice in 1948, took part in Deir Yassin, and shot the UN mediator Folke Bernadotte in September 1948, four months into the state. Shamir became prime minister of Israel in 1983.
