The Palmach blew up eleven bridges linking Palestine to its neighbours on the night of 16 June 1946.

On the night of 16 to 17 June 1946 the Palmach blew up eleven of the bridges that linked Mandate Palestine to Lebanon, Syria, Transjordan and Egypt, in a single coordinated operation of the Jewish Resistance Movement. Fourteen Palmach fighters died when their charges went off early at the Akhziv bridge. The British answered with Operation Agatha two weeks later, arresting some 2,700 members of the Jewish Agency and the Haganah, and the Irgun answered that with the King David Hotel.
