El Estado de Israel lo hizo 4 meses después de su propia declaración.

Lehi shot the UN mediator in Jerusalem on 17 September 1948. Yitzhak Shamir, later prime minister, was among its leaders.

Count Folke Bernadotte, a Swedish diplomat who had negotiated the release of thousands of prisoners from German camps in 1945, was appointed the United Nations mediator in Palestine in May 1948. His proposals included the return of the refugees and a redrawing of the partition. On 17 September 1948 Lehi gunmen stopped his car in the Katamon quarter of Jerusalem and shot him and the French colonel beside him dead.

Lehi's three leaders had approved the killing. One of them, Yitzhak Shamir, became prime minister of Israel in 1983. No one was tried. Israel outlawed Lehi and arrested its members, and released them under a general amnesty within months. The refugees Bernadotte had wanted returned were not.
