A Palmach raid on the village of al-Khisas on the night of 18 December 1947 killed ten people, five of them children.
Al-Khisas was a small village of Muslims and Christians in the Hula valley, in the far north. On the night of 18 December 1947 a Palmach unit raided it in reprisal for the killing of a Jewish man nearby, blew up houses, and killed ten people, five of them children. The Haganah's leadership had not authorised the raid and said so. Ben-Gurion condemned it at first and then withdrew the condemnation.
It was the first Palmach raid of the war to kill villagers in their homes, and it set a pattern. The village was emptied in May 1948.
