Israeli forces entered Jenin camp on 3 April 2002; the UN counted 52 Palestinians killed, up to half of them civilians, and 23 Israeli soldiers. UN Secretary-General's report A/ES-10/186 (July 2002); Human Rights Watch, "Jenin: IDF Military Operations" (May 2002), which counted at least 22 civilians among the dead, found no evidence of a massacre of hundreds, and found serious violations, some amounting to war crimes.
