Is it older than Israel?

Walter Guinness, Lord Moyne, was Britain's minister resident in the Middle East, based in Cairo. On 6 November 1944 two Lehi members, Eliyahu Hakim and Eliyahu Bet-Zuri, shot him and his driver as he arrived home. Both were caught, tried by an Egyptian court and hanged in March 1945.

Winston Churchill, who had been a friend of Moyne and a supporter of Zionism, told the Commons that if Zionism was to be defended by "the pistols of assassins" he would have to reconsider his position. The Jewish Agency and the Haganah, under pressure, briefly cooperated with the British against the Irgun and Lehi in what became known as the Saison. In 1975 Israel exchanged the two men's remains for Arab prisoners and buried them with state honours on Mount Herzl.
